NIN-VAVE: Slip N' Sloop

NIN-VAVE SLIP N' SLOOP

Nine Inch Nails on the M-VAVE FM-1: the firmware, and NIN sample packs, installed from this page.

Use Chrome or Edge on a computer (or Chrome on Android), connect the FM-1 by USB and switch it on. The browser asks to let this page use MIDI devices: allow it.

1. The firmware

The installer checks the package, writes it and restarts the FM-1. It boots as NIN-VAVE: the first power-on loads the Head Like a Hole pattern; press PLAY. Your projects and settings are kept. To go back to M-VAVE's official firmware: M-VAVE's own updater, M-UPGRADE (m-vave.com/download).

2. NIN packs

The FM-1 keeps four user sample slots, USR1 to USR4, besides the firmware. A pack fills them with more Nine Inch Nails: full 16-pad drum kits, and NIN instruments sampled over several notes. Install one, play it, install another whenever you like.

Where to find a pack on the FM-1

  1. Drum kits: the drum track (ALGORITHM to track 4), turn PRESETS to the slot the kit went to: USR1 to USR4 (newer firmware shows them by the pack's names, with the other NIN kits).
  2. Instruments: a synth track on the SAMPLE engine, SET to the slot: USR1 to USR4 (newer firmware also lists them on PRESETS as NIN.SLOT1 to NIN.SLOT4).
  3. Hold HOME → SEQ → NIN PATTERN for the factory patterns; hold FX to bend everything.
